NASA-6582

NASA engineer describes the operation of the "gun" used to fire sections of insulating foam at supersononic speeds at samples of Shutle window glass to test for possible failure. One of several Phantom 4 high speed digital cameras (the workhorse camera at the Ballistic Impact Facility) is set-up to record the effects of the impact test.

Notice a Cordin 330A high speed framing camera (blue, circular shaped) installed atop the test chamber. This unique film-based camera is capable of up to 2 million frames per second and provides 80 images on either B&W or color film.
